Behind Your Back

I caught myself this morning talking about my lil sis, Lindsey Hathaway, behind her back. You would think ‘how rude’ but you would be incorrect! So lets back up a bit to explain.

Subject: Pregnancy

With whom: Mallory
Why: Reason for visit to Massachusetts

If you were unaware, my little sister and brother-in-law Reed are growing their family. No they are not getting another dog…Lindsey has been growing a little human! And it will be round two of me being an uncle.

But again that is not why I was talking about her.

What seems like an eternity ago, Reed began the process of renovating their home, a farm house built in the 1800s, passed down through the generations. Over the years they started on gutting the second floor, living in their living room for a couple years, making a makeshift studio apartment. And last year they began the undertaking of fixing the foundation of their home, while adding a full basement, raising the roofline, expanding the living area by adding an open concept feeling. During construction, they decided to go on an extended camping trip in their backyard.

No it was’t a tent, they got a camper. Lets be real here folks.

Anyway, eight months ago, an urgency came with the announcement of their first child and construction went into full force. Fast forward to today where they are almost done, with a new foundation completed, plumbing, electrical, windows, doors, floors, walls, appliances…almost a completely new home!

Quickly…WAY TO GO REED! I know it has been a struggle to complete, a massive undertaking and an enormous learning experience, BUT, you are in the home stretch. I admire your determination, tenacity, endurance and your energy (even if you are almost at empty) to provide for your family.

But back to what I was telling my friend, I am impressed how Lindsey has handled her first pregnancy! She has gone through the whole pregnancy amongst major construction, staying in a trailer, not sure if she will have a baby room ready when ‘lil Hathaway’ comes into this world, let alone a bedroom for her, and she still has a smile on her face.

She is the cutest, strongest, determined little sister I have! (She is my only little sister..hehe). She is such a trooper.

Lindsey, I am so proud of you. Through the biggest struggles, challenges, in our lives our true character comes out. I have watched a woman of great patience, love, and faithfulness. A woman of courage, of endurance, a conqueror! This little human you and Reed are about to meet is privileged to have you as a mom and Reed as a dad!

I love you both!

P.S. I wrote this while sitting in Starbucks. While re-reading this to check for grammatical errors, which there are probably still some left, I began to cry. I am greatly honored and humbled to call you both family!

P.S.S. Below are some pictures of the construction and my beautiful lil sister.
